Sandplay
Sandplay or "sandspiel" as it was named by its Swiss founder Dora Kalff, is a medium whereby a person has access to a tray of sand and miniature figures to make whatever kind of scene he or she cares to. It is a non-verbal method for both adults and childrens' use which allows imagination, fantasy and emotion to be expressed, received and understood in a free and protected space.
Sandplay, like dreams, can be a way of helping one connect to his/her true essence and core of being. It is a fun, creative way of engaging in the therapeutic situation and allows symbolic expression of the psyche to be seen both by the client and the therapist.
Movement
Movement is another experiential way in which the true self has an opportunity to express itself. Whether it's an action which appears in a dream, a spontaneous body movement or a movement which evolves from a daily situation or dilemma, it can be an inroad to wholeness and balance when experienced.
Sandplay, movement and other creative expressions of feelings or images are all ways to concretize what is unknown and help integrate it into consciousness.
